Are eye creams worth the money?

Glynis BarberBeauty, Skincare Leave a Comment

Out of all the skin products that people are hoping for a result from, I think eye creams top the list. We often hope that an eye cream is going to transform the area around our eyes and we’ll wake up and some sort of miracle will have occurred.

At the risk of being the person who busts the Santa myth, I have to be honest and say, it’s probably not going to happen. I know…..and I’m sorry.

The skin round our eyes is very thin and is one of the first areas to age

It would be incredibly optimistic to think a cream is going to make a big difference. However, I do actually think that eye creams are worth the money. They will help keep the area hydrated and some of them contain ingredients that WILL help ageing skin. It’s a question of managing expectations I think.

I’ve been on a quest to find the best one and I wanted to look at both the natural as well as the regular end of the spectrum. I ended up liking them all for the different elements they offered. Oh decisions, decisions!

Eye Care by Dafna’s

I liked this one a lot. It’s a completely natural, organic and vegan product full of active ingredients (the best combo in my opinion) and has 16 potent actives which include chicory root (which I recently discovered to be a super healthy sweetener) and soy protein which enhances collagen production.

It has the consistency of a creamy serum and reduces the appearance of fine lines and puffiness with ingredients like rosehip oil. It has won awards and apparently is very popular with Spanish actresses! Well this English actress is pretty sold on it too. Great for the AM and the PM. Definitely one of the best I tried.

Eye Contour Serum by Garden of Wisdom

So after telling you all to manage your expectations, I’m now going to sound like an eye cream junkie! Because I absolutely LOVE this one. In fact I love the entire range of these GOW products and have written about them before. They are incredibly well priced and are FULL of active ingredients. They don’t use a lot of nasties but are not completely natural.

The eye serum is super light and tackles all the eye issues like dark circles, puffiness, fine lines etc. It’s incredibly hydrating and contains peptides, which is the magic ingredient that Dr Khan from the Harley Street Clinic has mentioned in my videos with him. Peptides are a must for ageing skin specially round the mouth and eyes. I have had incredible feedback from my Ageless followers who have tried this one.

Ideal for the AM and PM.

Intensive Eye Therapy by NeoStrata

This one is not a natural product but is a very good one indeed. It has a patented formula that plumps up the skin from a deep layer thereby softening the appearance of lines in the skin. It uses apple stem cells to help build collagen (which interestingly I’ve seen used in Green People’s Nordic Roots range) and uses caffeine to de-puff the eye area. It also has the magical peptides. I was prescribed this one after going on the Visia machine and am getting great results.

I mostly use this in the PM but it’s fine for the AM as well. It’s a serum-like texture and leaves your skin feeling very soft. You can use code GLYN2021 to get a 5% discount. This product is also a new addition to the GLYNIS LOVES page.

Keep Young & Beautiful Firm & Lift Eye Cream by REN

REN use very few chemicals in this more traditional eye cream (as opposed to serum). To me this one is mostly softening and replenishing. By keeping the skin well hydrated, fine lines will be softened and the skin will feel a bit tighter. If you prefer the richness of a cream then this is for you. However the cream is very light as it should be. Tempting as a thick cream may be, this is not a good idea on the delicate skin round the eye, as a thick cream will attract water and puff the area up.

This super light cream still feels rich and moisturising.
