As an actress constantly in the public eye, I have a professional incentive to look my best, but more than that, I am interested in maintaining good health and looking and feeling youthful for as long as possible. To that end I have always been very active and am an enthusiastic supplement taker.
Over the years, people (including fans, friends and the media) have seemed fascinated by the way I am ageing and I constantly get asked what the ‘secret’ is.
Well the truth is that it is mostly down to lifestyle. We are not slaves to our genes as previously thought. They now know that genes only account for around 25% of how we age and the rest is lifestyle. This is very good news as it means we all have the ability to take control of our health.
Yoga, which I have been doing for 25 years, seemed the perfect activity to choose for the DVD as the benefits are enormous. Besides the activity element, which is vital to a healthy lifestyle, it is also strengthening, great for flexibility as well as calming. The breathing exercises are so important for combating stress which is the arch enemy of good health. I am very fortunate to have the expertise of Howard Napper who has come up with a hugely beneficial yoga workout that can be done by anyone at any level.
This DVD is not about quick fixes or expensive regimes. It is about the fundamental fact that ageing well means maintaining good health and implementing a healthy lifestyle. We all age, that’s inevitable, but that doesn’t mean we need to be old.
The DVD not only contains the yoga workout but also extensive information in key areas through interviews with various experts. I believe this is one of the only fitness DVD’s to do this.

Anti Ageing Secrets Yoga with Glynis Barber and Howard HapperThe yoga section is divided into key chapters which can either be done individually or together:
- You are only as old as your spine – 12 minutes of spine exercises
- Yoga flow – this is divided into 3 x 10 minute sections which can be done as one 30 minute section or as quicker individual 10 minute sections
- Natural face lift workout– 10 minutes
- Stress buster relaxation – 15 minutes of breathing and relaxation
There is also an introduction by me and a 5 minute section where Howard and I explain how to do some of the basic postures used in the DVD. Included with the DVD is a booklet explaining the many benefits of the postures we use as well as any cautions that need to be taken.
This DVD is a reflection of who I am and how I live my life. I am happy to share my ‘secret’ and will be even happier if people are inspired to make lifestyle changes as a result of it. The great thing is it is not difficult, does not require large outlays of funds and is very achievable.
