There’s a buzz word that’s been growing and growing when it comes to exercise. That word is Pilates.
Of course it’s been around for a long time, over a 1oo years, but now it’s grown to global proportions and people are raving about it. It’s true that every person I know who does it, is toned and in great shape. My friend Barbara Drennan even gave up acting and became a pilates instructor and has never been happier. She absolutely loves it.
So what is the deal with pilates?
I’ve decided to find out what the fuss is all about. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, even though it’s challenging, it’s apparently very gentle. Secondly, I have bad knees and other joint pain. Pilates is meant to be good for rehabilitation and helps to strengthen the muscles around the injury.
They even have medical pilates instructors
This sounds very good to me and I’ll definitely be exploring it all. My starting point is with my friend Barbara at RE:FORM Pilates in beautiful Barnes in south west London. She’ll be doing 1:1 sessions with me, introducing me to all the techniques and making sure I have good form as I do the moves. It’s really important ( in all forms of exercise ) to make sure we do that.
Come along on my journey with me to see what it entails and find out more about how pilates works. This is the beginning of my journey and I’ll be doing more videos to show how I progress.
