The 3 steps to improve an uneven skin tone

Glynis BarberBeauty, Skincare Leave a Comment

Nothing will age your skin more than an uneven skin tone. Unfortunately, this is something that’s inevitable as we age.

The main cause of this is pigmentation

Most of us will have spent time in the sun and from mid life and beyond is when we pay the price. Dark spots and mottled patches of brown begin to appear. It’s a time to be vigilant in case there’s anything sinister appearing and to seek medical advice when necessary. This is especially true if any patch becomes itchy or flaky.

The result of all this pigmentation is an uneven skin tone. And it’s not a great look.

It’s good to be pro-active and cover, treat and protect

In the video below, I talk through these 3 steps and show the products I personally like to use.

If you’ve never worn foundation, now is the time to start. If you have lots of pigmentation or redness on your skin, foundation is going to make a huge difference.

The one I like is a cream in a compact by Studio 10. As it’s specially designed for mature skin, it has a creamy texture that leaves your skin looking dewy. It’s called Age Repair Perfect Canvas and I apply it with the Studio 10 brush. This way you can use as little or as much as you like.

Treat

We need products to brighten the complexion and help fade pigmentation.

Vitamin C is great for this. I adore Radiance Serum by ARK.

New to my bathroom cabinet is Alpha Arbutin & Kojic Acid by DoSe. Kojic Acid brightens the complexion in a similar way to Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin targets dark spots. A powerful but gentle combo.

One of the most effective skin products is a retinal. The new generation of retinoids is thankfully non-irritating. I love the one by Dose, which is Granactive Retinoid 5% Serum.

Protect

To stop pigmentation getting worse or new pigmentation forming, it’s important to protect your face by using an SPF year-round.

In the summer, I always use EVY SPF 5o. It long lasting on the skin, doesn’t go off between seasons and is a lovely light mousse. It’s also great for sensitive skin.

In the winter,r I switch to a product that’s a firm favourite as it’s a 3 in 1. Moisturiser, primer and SPF 30.

It’s by ARK and is called Skin Protector SPF Primer.
